1. Our approach
Roaring Reads is designed for families. Accounts are created and managed by adults (parents or carers). Children use the product under that adult’s supervision.
We aim to keep the experience educational, age-appropriate for roughly 7–11 year olds, and free from advertising that targets children.
2. Parent / carer responsibility
As the account holder, you are responsible for:
- confirming you are 18+ when you create an account;
- supervising your child’s use of the Service;
- deciding what name and information you enter on child profiles;
- reviewing Book Talk answers and parent reports;
- keeping your password and parent PIN private.
3. What Roaring Reads is (and isn’t)
Book Talks and coaching are literacy support tools. They are not counselling, mental-health diagnosis, formal school assessment, or a substitute for professional advice.
If you are worried about a child’s welfare, contact appropriate services (for example your school, GP, or local children’s services). In the UK, you can also find guidance via the NSPCC.
4. Content and AI
Questions and coaching are generated to support reading comprehension. AI can make mistakes. Please review outputs and stop a session if something feels inappropriate.
Do not enter sensitive information about a child that is not needed for reading support (for example medical details, safeguarding case notes, or other people’s private data).
5. Voice Mode
If you enable Voice Mode, spoken answers may be sent to our speech provider to create a transcript. Use it only where you are comfortable with that processing, in a suitable environment, and with your supervision.
6. Reporting concerns
If you believe the Service has shown harmful content, been misused, or that an account is being used unsafely, email hello@roaringreads.net with “Safeguarding” in the subject line. We will review reports as quickly as we can.
If a child is in immediate danger, contact the emergency services on 999.
